This was one of those games you wish you’d brought a cap for, especially if you’re towards the back of the East Stand. I did not and spent 3/4 of the game shielding my eyes from the sun, as it was a surprisingly clement afternoon for Wigan in October. It kind of made up for the lack of positive on-pitch action, but not really. Still, here are some photos from the warmup for this South Lancastrian clash.

It’s time to catch up on some JWAW photography from recent home games. First up, we have snaps of the warmup from Wigan’s victory over QPR just under two months ago, which is incidentally the last time they did anything but lose. Has it really been that long since our last point?

Wigan v Villarreal (7 August 2011) photos

All the fun of a pre-season friendly, captured in glorious jpeggedness for your viewing delectation. Refer to the following gallery of photographs for a taste of the atmosphere at the DW Stadium, which saw the début of Wigan’s new home strip and more presentation-related mirth than you can squeeze into a fun-size serving of jamón serrano. That’s Spanish for cured ham, incidentally.

As for Hugo Rodallega, he was present to partake in the odd kickabout. One can only speculate as to whether his absence from the first team against Villarreal is a clue to his fate, with clubs such as Arsenal reportedly ready to table a bit. I’d take those stories with a pinch of salt for the time being, however, and venture that he was simply rested for more important forthcoming fixtures.

It was nice to actually be able to get to a game for a change, to sample the (very tense) atmosphere of the DW once more after a string of working Saturdays. The old camera, complete with new batteries, was brought out once more for some pre-game snaps from a decent viewpoint in the East Stand.

And we’re back for another season of horrible photos! Except this time they’ll be even worse and perhaps even non-existent. Here’s a selection from the warmup for Wednesday night’s encounter with our La Liga opponents, who brought with them an enthusiasm and laid-back Spanish style that even seemed to have an effect on the weather. By this I mean it didn’t rain. Much.

Wigan v Hull City (3rd May 2010) photos

A bit late, but as they say, that’s better than never at all. Or, considering the quality of my photography, maybe it isn’t. I will say my pics are actually getting better, perhaps aided by that fancy new forty quid camera I shelled out for, but still nowhere near any sort of journalistic standard.

Not to be making excuses for the recent general lack of updates, but the absence of league action makes you kind of unenthusiastic, even lackadaisical at times. Besides, it’s close season and I wanted a rest, you hear? Expect to be fully updated on arrangements for JWAW in 2010/11 sometime in the near future. Meanwhile, enjoy these snaps from the Latics-Hull encounter back in May.

Still to come is media from the Arsenal game, though considering my recent workload I wouldn’t hold your breath for anything in the next few days. Still, I may surprise you.

Wigan v Aston Villa (16th March 2010) photos

A few snaps from the buildup to the home game with Villa earlier this month. Nothing particularly exciting to note here, except for the fact I used the occasion to experiment with flash settings, which wasn’t entirely (or even moderately) successful – hence the blur in some pics. Blasted poor photography skills/cheapo camera/floodlights. Nevertheless…
