Powell being rushed home… maybe

Nick Powell has returned to Wigan early after missing England U21’s Euro Championship Group Match with Finland due to injury. Sky Sports News reports that he will receive further treatment at the club ahead of this Saturday’s Championship showdown with Brighton.

Whether this is a precautionary measure to protect the on-loan Manchester United starlet remains to be seen, but with a spell of 11 games in a little over five weeks, JWAW speculates he might be rested. And fed Irn Bru to aid the recovery effort (sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Powell has been a veritable Energiz… er, battery bunny since joining Latics, featuring in 14 competitive games this campaign. During that time he has snaffled five vitally important goals to help propel his adopted side to 10th in the FA Championship table and second in Europa League Group D. Where in the world would we be without him?™

Fellow Man United youngster and prospective Latics loan target Will Keane has also returned to the north west, hopefully to seal a deal that could see him feature against Brighton on Saturday. Who wants to play San Marino, anyway? England usually lose to them. Oh wait, that’s a fallacy propagated by the anti-international brigade which I ought to ignore.

With a full complement of fixtures tomorrow evening, the injury tarot cards are drawn once again for Wigan’s international contingent. Here’s hoping the DW physio room does not see more activity than the Blockbuster bargain bin before Saturday morning.
