You may remember that last month, we cast a sideways glance at Greg Lansdowne’s newly-released Stuck On You: The Rise & Fall… (& Rise) of Panini Stickers. Well, my good friend the ‘mysterious’ Harry Yack (who may or may not actually be me) has been speaking to Mr Lansdowne himself about the book and football stickers in general!
Be warned – there are many references to teletext. But then again, did you expect anything more?
Harry’s show description:
Apologies for the slight loss of audio at certain points. In the spirit of the series, we recorded this using genuine ‘clockwork’ retro tech…
Football sticker collecting is back in vogue, and Greg Lansdowne has written the book. ‘Stuck on You’ chronicles the history of Panini, Merlin and various wannabes and hangers-on, from the very first non-adhesive cards to the sticker renaissance that was the 2014 World Cup.
What happened when prison inmates helped package football stickers? What on earth does Hulk Hogan have to do with all of this? And why did Alan Curtis once wear carpet slippers for his Panini photoshoot? Well, you’ll have to listen and find out!
