Transfer Window Dog: “Bleeeeh! Try pilfering our signings at 6.15pm! Phrrrrt!”
If you hold on for just a minute, we’ll tell you all about Wigan Athletic’s transfer deadline day activity… I’m waiting for the clock to tick past 6pm. You just know those pesky rival podcasts are readying a swoop for Progress With Unity’s talented youngsters before the football blogging transfer window ends, so we’re going to hide from suspicious-looking guys with oversized camcorders for the next half hour.
(Swiftly retreats to drawing room, cigar in hand.)
There we go, I think we’re safe enough to release the podcast now! And please don’t tell me this episode has been available elsewhere for 30 hours, because you know full well that was all an excuse for me to go and watch Blockbusters on Challenge TV. “Bob, I want U,” indeed. Wait, I mean, erm…
I should warn you in advance that Barry was away on FAB duties for this edition, so the (aforementioned talented) kids have been let loose in the sweet… er, book shop. As a result, it’ll be about as organised as a John Barnes autocue rehearsal. (He wasn’t very good at it, if you remember those early Channel 5 broadcasts – maybe they should have got him to do the Anfield Rap instead.)
Tune in next week for a full Sky Sports News-style FAB review complete with rolling videprinter and passers by mooning at on-location reporters! And Barry.
Contents: Radio DJ intros (0:00); rugby-less Crewe review with your roving reporters (3:30) including steady mid table? (9:30) And paying tribute to Craig Davies (15:40); transfer deadline day dealin’ with(out) Jimmy White (17:20) including new signing profiles (18:30) and a Rangers fan’s view of Haris Vuckic (20:10); Colchesterfield preview with Simon (25:00) including ‘assessing the intangible picture’ (28:00), Jordy for the first XI (30:00) and ‘serious’ predictions (34:45); Born to Run: shoutout to all the Wigan 10k runners (37:50)
Progress With Unity is still the one and only weekly Wigan Athletic fan podcast on the web. If you wish to get involved or have any topics you’d like to be discussed, please get in touch with Barry at firstname.lastname@example.org, marking your email PWU Podcast.
A bonus YouTube video for you this week. Here’s George Best scoring against Northampton Town:
Wait, my mistake! That was apparently Andy Kellett’s senior goal for Plymouth Argyle. You know, the one that may or may not have caught the attention of Man U, who signed him on half-season loan at the end of the previous transfer window.
To bring us back from Planet Clickbait, I have to remind you that Kellett is a (largely non-scoring) defender and will probably be ‘accidentally’ decked by Grant Holt in a forthcoming Christopher Park training session. The beast is back, baby! Follow Holt’s comeback trail with PWU’s Twitter, iTunes,RSS and app pages over the coming days, weeks and months… or just go and watch the rest of Blockbusters before it ends. Speaking of which, there’s half a Caramac waiting for me int’ drawing room. See you tomorrow night.
