It’s not the PWU Podcast. But it is a Latics podcast, and it is long and meandering. This pilot episode was recorded on Tuesday night, before it was announced that the DW surface would be relaid ahead of the Oldham game. In Football Land, everything is past its sell by date before it has even…
“I’ve done it, Grandad,” he said, slamming down the phone receiver. “Done what, Grandson? The transfer window has been closed for five days now.” “I’ve signed Nando’s for Wigan Robin Park! Now we won’t need to re-open that curry shop outside the North Stand.” “Oh! Well, if you think this ‘Nann-doss’ chap is any good…”…
You’re just wondering what happened to this week’s From The Terrace reports, aren’t you? I know as much because I have the power of hypnotic suggestion. Look deep into my eyes and repeat after me: “I will download every episode of the Progress With Unity Podcast that has ever been made.” Feel free to start…
I’m sorry, I can’t view this transfer window as anything but a dismal failure. Because Big GC opted not to launch bids for Gary Dicker, Rod Fanni and David Goodwillie, small time internet weblogs will be forced to recycle the same Max Power memes posted in early August! Good job everybody has forgotten about them…
Let’s be brutally honest – Ben Watson probably means nothing to Manchester City fans. Yeah, some might have suffered mildly bruised egos when Sir Benjamin leapt to defeat Joe Hart from 6 yards, but such things quickly became lost among title challenges, superstar signings and breathtaking European nights. …All of which serves to further magnify…
Well, viewers, it’s been a busy week here at the JWAW Transfer Window. Staring at this pane of frosted glass for seven long days, I have just about been able to distinguish the figure of a dog… or maybe it was a horse – I can’t be bothered getting up to move the voile obscuring…
Fans of matchday minutiae, get a load of this! Stade Deedub has hosted its FAB-tastic (mostly) bi-monthly meeting to discuss pies, beer and plastic forks (thanks to the All Gone Latics fanzine for that one). And we’ve set aside time on Progress With Unity to talk about… well, talking about Wigan Athletic FC. How very…
Being a football supporter is ruddy awful. You work 40 hours a week to pay £300+ for the train, ticket, hotel, bus, coach, pie and toilet turnstile just so you can watch 22 blokes with haircuts more expensive than your car fall over delicately, screeching in apparent ‘pain’. And as for goals, you’ll be lucky…
In League One, 3-0 can be a dangerous lead. The disconcerting silence following Michael Jacobs’ corker against Chesterfield is proof that you require a four goal cushion to be anywhere near comeback safe. “C’mon, we need at least one more,” cried anxious East Standers wary of United-esque fightbacks. (Sheffield United, that is.) An obvious solution…
“They’re closing Whelan’s,” garbled my gran, wiping away a small tear. I hadn’t the heart to tell her that Uncle DeeDub sold his discount stores to a well-known high street supermarket way back in 1978. But to her, that shop in the Galleries had always remained Whelan’s – I guess that like a work experience…
Ahh, the nostalgic delight of FA Cup Third Round weekend. You might think Latics’ absence at this particular stage would remove some of the oft-cited ‘magic’ from Britain’s most prestigious cup competition. But no – for once, you could witness Jeff Stalling’s Sky Sports Snooze Breakdown with blissful comfort, safe in the knowledge that your…
Robin Park Shopping Precinct, a wet and chilly January evening. Sparrows huddle for warmth under supermarket eaves as the wheeled metal machines below struggle to wake up. Suddenly from the stony silence, a sharp blast of Krautrock in the vicinity of Stadium Way. Was ist das? Heads swivel 180 degrees as the silhouette of a…
